KeepCup, eco-friendly and recyclable coffee cups

In a strive for more sustainable lifestyle, we have decided to stop using disposable take-away cups as much as possible this year and encourage everyone to do their part to slow climate change. Innovations like KeepCup, an environmentally-friendly reusable coffee cup is one way to keep your coffee hot and planet cool.

KeepCup cropped up in Australia last year as the world’s first barista standard reusable cup, lightweight, dishwasher safe, microwaveable, stackable and splashproof. Designed, tooled and manufactured in Melbourne from separate components of safe food grade polypropylene and silicon. We like the soft shaped design and the unique band system to customise your eco-friendly cup. There is also a clever plug attached on the lid that moves 90 degrees into a blind hole to open/close the air and sipper hole.

On World Environment Day 2009, the siblings and co-founders of KeepCup – Abigail & Jamie Forsyth – emphasised the impact of disposable paper cups which have been around for the past century. With the rise in popularity of the takeaway beverage, paper cups fill landfills around the world and here are some facts to chew on:

- A disposable coffee cup is NOT recyclable, as the paper cup is coated internally with polyethylene and the lid is polystyrene.

- Over 500 million disposable cups contribute to Australia’s landfill each year; that is enough cups to fill the Sydney Opera House.

- It takes the equivalent resources needed for 18 disposable lids to make one

Now, coffee or tea anyone?

These are ACE! I wish our work would supply us with branded cups! I would defo use them. Mind you, I once saw a guy at Gloria Jeans, who ordered a small coffee, but supplied a HUGE cup and demanded that it be filled to the brim! The poor barista was a bit confused but she did it..
