Tony Hawk Ride video game
While I applaud Robomodo and Activision for their new Tony Hawk Ride skateboard controller for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii, I have to wonder what they were thinking. The new video game is designed in collaboration with the legendary pro-skater Tony Hawk himself but skateboards are not an easily understood mode of transportation. I started skating when I was a wee lad in the 80s when the boards were the size of our torso and had plastic brakes on the tail. This sport requires timing, balance and athleticism that the average person just doesn’t have. Skating takes a long time to be a comfortable hobby and an insane amount of practice to become a profession, yet here it is in all its counter intuitive glory.
The promo shots are all black and grey but they decided to switch to a the more friendly “iPod white” after they found that test subjects didn’t want to step on the black board but were drawn to the white one. I’m not sure about you but the last thing I want to stand on is a white piece of plastic that attracts dirt like a magnet. Then again, you are not likely to take this thing out to the streets…
Time will tell if this thing has legs, so to speak. The comments from fan boys the world over have been mixed but one foul cry that I’ve consistently heard mirrors that of the disgruntled guitarist when Guitar Hero first reared its head. We know it’s not a real skateboard and it isn’t trying to be. It’s just supposed to be fun so let’s wait until the release date before we make any real judgements. The >Tony Hawk Ride has its North American release date 13 October 2009 and in Europe 20 November 2009 whilst Australia is still TBC.

hello. My brother recently well today brought the tony hawks ride game and is finding it extremely hard to collaberate the board and is getting very annoyed. Please could you email me back with a way to colabarate the board as it is taking him ages and he would like to actually play the game instead of wasting his time setting it up. thankyou very much.
