The MINI Space team arrive reportedly on site at the InterniDesignEnergies show in Milan 2009, part of the world’s most prestigious furniture expo, Milan’s Salone del Mobile. They are showcasing their one-off black-painted MINI Cooper S Clubman with the Airstream’s lightning green tint trimming headlamps, alloy wheels and side mirrors which are creating strong cutaway lines on its body.

However, what attracts most attention is the trailer hitched onto it – the chrome Airstream camper trailer detailed by Copenhagen-based design firm Republic of Fritz Hansen. The Danes outfitted a mid-century American classic with inspired twists on their countryman Arne Jacobsen’s cushy Series SevenTM and SwanTM chairs. The retro wood interior paneling, neoprene-wetsuit upholstery accents and a sunbathing bed clearly indicate this camper is going to the beach – perfect for the Aussie lifestyle, I reckon!

Having grown up in Sweden where a roadtrip map is like a holy bible and caravans are common themes plus a dad who would do anything to make us go on extensive family trips, I’m not sure how practical this stylish trailer would be in reality… It does have a magic cool factor however and allow you to dream about taking off on a spontaneous road trip into the great wide open, down horizon bending highways, along beautiful coastal views with crashing surf, majestic meadows, stopping by funky towns and inviting new-found friends on the road to sit back for a cuppa in the swish chairs!
