Kelly Love Origami Dolls Autumn/Winter 2010

We are proud to share a sneak peek from our own Featured Contributor Kelly Love‘s Autumn/Winter 2010 collection – Origami Dolls.

Kelly’s self-named fashion label was launched at Australian Fashion Week 2008 New Generation Show with “Beautiful Side of Everything” – a whimsical collection of light and feminine styles, including feather weight dresses, velvety soft camisoles and French knickers. A move overseas quickly followed to take on the bright lights of London where her AW2010 range Origami Dolls was created. Enjoy a few selected pieces from the lookbok and feel the inspiration. Enjoy and much Love!

So it begins. A small step heading up the winding staircase of the London fashion industry. If a picture tells a thousand words then a collection tells a precise story that hopefully will captivate the listener and intrigue the glittering fashion world.

Sumptuous velvet, tailored wool trimmed with French Lace, buttery soft silks and hand drawn prints encapsulate this collection. The inspiration came from a romantic mind and fragments of Kelly’s memories from living in Japan. Dolls, circles painted perfectly on already rosy cheeks, impossibly long eyelashes, origami, paper planes, whimsical geisha girls, hand painted silk, the sound of butterfly wings, foreign films shot in impending darkness, love letters, tea cups.

The scene is set for the lookbook. A doll who found and lost love in Japan over 20 perfect days. An inspiration becomes an idea – a sketch on thick textured paper. Crumpled and thrown away, start again, colours bleed into one another, charcoal smudges and the final idea is here. Old fashioned pattern cutting, printing, fabric is draped and folded into itself, pockets form, meticulous hand stitching leaves invisible traces of blood from a million pricked fingers.

A china doll leans against a dirty wall in a derelict Victorian house. Studded clogs and spiked leather accessories adorn her and compliment her delicate outfit. The room is silent bar the click of a camera and the rain outside. Watch the Origami Dolls come to life AW2010-11.
