Stay opened in October 2008 and is located at the heart of the busy Times Square in New York close to Rockefeller Center, Fifth Avenue and all of the Broadway theatres. If you enjoy staying in close proximity to all the tourist attractions and don’t mind the feel of human pinball machine on the streets or small space living – this is an ultimate location and probably one of the most central hotels to stay on Manhattan.

There is a chic and inviting feel when stepping into the lobby, walking past the the large wall of a beautiful fish tank and glimpsing to the back of chilled lounge area with white furniture and mirror walls that makes it look a lot larger than it really is. We only wish this feel would extend to the rest of the hotel but having said that, shoebox-size living and extremely slow lifts are somewhat a charm of typical New York. When finally stepping out of the lift, we spot some creative animated images projected on the wall displays through the window facing the inner courtyard. It is a nice and good distraction when waiting for the lift next time.

The room is small but equipped with the most things needed for a short stay and it was a perfect nest to rest – not sure if it was thanks to the feather beds and duvets or the busy day around town concluded with bar hopping with local friends to 4am Downtown but we slept like babies.

Vikram Chatwal Hotels has also teamed up with Greg Brier to bring the sister outpost of the mountain-chic Aspen Restaurant and Lounge to guests of Stay. and city-dwellers alike with Aspen Social Club. Designer Steve Lewis combined America’s most exalted, high-altitude destination with New York’s urban edge in his creation of the Social Club. The massive antler-crowned fire pit transports diners to the snowy mountains of Colorado.

Yeah, there is a mix of different design and feel in the various areas from lobby to guest rooms and the adjacent restaurant. Perhaps this new hotel is still trying to figure out what it wants to be or trying out everything to make you stay?
