Sydney Mardi Gras 2010 Video + Nudity at the Opera House
Sydney surely knows how to throw a party, from our famous New Year fireworks celebrations to Sydney Festival and the annual Mardi Gras is definately no exception. Regardless of sexual preference, Mardi Gras is a great time to let your hair down and even shed some clothes…
As part of the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, international contemporary artist Spencer Tunick will make an installation called “The Base”, using thousands of nude Australians on the steps of the iconic Sydney Opera House on Monday morning 1 March 2010, and yes – YOU – can participate!
The Base is not only an art event but a political statement about having gay and straight people posing together as equals, and pushing the limits. Be part of Spencer Tunick’s first large-scale installation in Sydney at the Sydney Opera House Forecourt. In exchange for taking part, you will receive a limited edition photo of the installation. To participate and more info, register via Mardi Gras official site.
This is not the first time the US-based artist has gathered people by the thousand and getting them to strip in the name of art. Using a sea of naked bodies as his medium, Spencer Tunick moulds his groups of volunteers into abstract shapes in various forms and locations. He has attracted huge crowds around the globe including 7,000 in Barcelona and 18,000 in Mexico City. Image above is from Miami 2007 at courtesy of artist.
