SOYA 2010 open for registration

The Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards (SOYA) for Australia’s best emerging artists, designers, and creatives, has officially opened registrations to young achievers wanting to boost their careers with an once-in-a-lifetime mentorship and grants program. If you are a talented Australian, aged 30 and under, across seven creative fields – fashion, film, visual arts, visual communications, music, industrial and object design and photography – then you are invited to submit work for a chance to receive financial support in the form of $5,000 in cash and $5,000 in Qantas flights, as well as a 12-month mentorship opportunity with leading lights of the international creative community.

In 2010, SOYA boasts a stellar line-up of inspirational mentors; Marc Newson (Design), Nicky and Simone Zimmermann (Fashion), Jan Chapman (Film), Tony Mott (Photography), Lee Groves (Music), Elizabeth Ann Macgregor (Visual Arts) and Deanne Cheuk (Visual Communication). As success stories in their respective fields, these industry leaders know that getting a break and having the right doors opened can help launch a creative career. Celebrating its seventh year, SOYA has been instrumental in uncovering and nurturing young artists, photographers, fashion designers, filmmakers and musicians, helping them expand their horizons, build up their business and learn the ropes from some of the greatest creative minds in the world.

Remarkable SOYA winners to date have included fashion labels Ant!podium, Friedrich Gray, Romance Was Born, musicians Wolf & Cub, My Disco, Oh Mercy and Fergus Brown, artists Rebecca Baumann, Danielle Freakley and Grant Stevens, photographers James Brickwood and Nirrimi Hakanson, among many others. Check out the winners from last year of SOYA 2009 Winners.

Registrations are now open for Qantas Spirit Of Youth Awards 2010 from June 22 until the closing date of August 9 with all submissions to be made online. The winners will be announced at a spectacular VIP awards night held on November 11 at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
