Collaborations between music and fashion are nothing new but always refreshing. Levi’s is showing love to music artists with its ‘Pioneer Sessions’ of cutting edge covers. An eclectic collection of musicians from pop, rock, soul and rap is invited to re-craft the classic songs that helped shaped their sound. So far in the series, rapper NAS has reworked Slick Rick, the Swells do the Commitments, and the latest pair include She and Him’s Zooey Deschanel and Matt Ward. With credit to the songwriters Rube Bloom and Johnny Mercer, they add their own touch of rockabilly and romantic angst to the track while rocking garments from the Levi’s latest collection.

The musical duo formed almost by accident, movie star and queen of the quirk Deschanel collaborated with Ward on the 2008’s ‘Volume One’ album, and after hitting the right note with their breezy, vintage pop sound, evolved into a ‘proper’ touring band. Volume Two was released this year and the sunny songstress and her strumming maestro are fresh from a heap of live gigs including the infamous Coachella Festival.

Future acts doing the deed for Levi’s Pioneer Sessions are said to include The Shins, Passion Pit and the Kills. Stay tuned.
