2010 IKEA Catalogue Australian launch party

The new IKEA Catalogue 2010 launched in style at the Australian Technology Park in Sydney which was transformed to a party venue with IKEA signature furniture showrooms. For those that never been here, the open space venue boasts state-of-the-art technology amidst heritage architecture with towering cast-iron columns, arched windows and rustic brickwork. Anticipation was rising outside a closed off area with decorated rooms to showcase furniture and homeware from the new IKEA catalogue. The launch of a new catalogue, 376 pages to be exact, is filled with crispy new inspiration for your home interior. Yeah, we get easily excited.

Their focus is changed from the previous year where the launch felt more personal and intimate. The previous 2009 IKEA Catalogue included IKEA’s ethnographic study of the Australian people and their homes with the theme of “The way you live everyday that’s how houses become homes”. The size of this year’s venue provided a more stylistic setting and non-tangible. Clearly, your home can be seen as a blank canvas to add your own personality with lounges, beds, cupboards, rugs, tables, chairs, textiles, cushions, tableware, kitchenware and even kitchen appliances plus any other home decor you may possibly need for your home. The new catalogue won’t tell you how you should decorate your home but it will give you lots of inspiration and ideas with this year’s theme: “Love your home”.

Three key areas where we spend most of our time – the living room, the kitchen and the bedroom – were highlighted and demonstrated at the launch. New design trends were also unveiled such as different shades of grey, rich walnut and dark finishes, soft natural and organic shapes versus hard structured lines as well as dramatic graphic patterns. We haven’t had the chance to pick out our personal favs from the catalogue yet but feel free to let us know your top picks when you flicked through the pages of your own copy.

IKEA is also planning more giant stores to be opened in Australia and knowing their success story, these will be time and money traps for sure. Who has managed to walk through an IKEA store, through the masterminded maze without buying anything?
