Designer Faces by Eurowalls x Studio Equator

Eurowalls and Studio Equator took wallpaper from wall covering to fine art in the Designer Faces exhibition during recent Saturday in Design 2010 in Melbourne. When combined with the talent at Studio Equator, a Richmond-based graphic design studio, Eurowalls wall coverings were transformed into larger-than-life wallpaper portraits that capture the essence of celebrity designers.

Phillipe Starck, Marc Newson and Zaha Hadid would approve of their giant, slightly tongue-in-cheek, collage-likeness made from the stunning Eurowalls wall coverings. Marc Newson, with his Swarovski crystal encrusted dark glasses (the crystals are a feature of the wallpaper!) was a standout.

Visitors to the exhibition were invited to answer the question “What type of designer are you?” with the interactive touch screens. With the very lush, over-sized touch screens and some clever software, you were able to use the Eurowalls collection to customise the features for your very own portrait of your favourite designer, yourself, or, as I overheard from one visitor, her “dream man”.

This unconventional use of wallpaper showed the versatility of premium Eurowalls by designers and manufacturers including Iris Maschek, Lars Contzen and Architects Papers. The wallpapers themselves are, in fact, fine art in their own right.
