Tron Legacy themed suite at Ice Hotel, Sweden
Last week, I checked out Disney’s much hyped Tron Legacy movie at IMAX 3D and hope all our giveaway winners are enjoying their tickets. With all the CGI effects, I wouldn’t recommended any other way to watch this movie than in 3D with their fantasy and futurustic design through the sequences inside “The Grid”, the battles and adrenline-filled chases in futuristic vehicles, and not to mention the stylish costumes of each character which are well-thought in detail. All to the beats of Daft Punk. Inspired by a nightclub in the movie, the British designers (and massive Tron fans) Ben Rousseau and Ian Douglas-Jones set out to capture the dynamism and essence of the movie at the world-famous Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden.
Situated 200 km north of the Arctic Circle, Rousseau + I-N-D-J designed and built Legacy of the river, a futuristic ice suite. Using technology never before seen in the hotel’s 20 year history, the suite is one of 19 unique Art suites now at Ice Hotel. While the movie may mostly be targeting Sci-Fi and arcade games fans, it was entertaining from start to finish. In similar ways, the Ice Hotel might not be everyone’s cup of tea but could be a pretty unique experience.
Inside the Ice Hotel, the temperature is never colder than -5 °C to -8 °C, regardless of how cold it may be outside. You are suggested to dress in warm thermal underwear, put on a hat and slip into the thermal sleeping bags and reindeer skins to prevent you from freezing to death. FYI: For those less game, there are actually options of warm rooms (and thankfully a sauna!) at associated hotel, hostel or camping too if you just wish to out check the icy rooms but actually not stay inside them.
However, with the current snowstorms in Scandinavia, I’m not sure how people will get here right now. While I am jealous of the white snow back home in Sweden, I am not so envious of the snow chaos and currently freezing temperatures. God Jul och Gott Nytt År!
