The Eliza luxury apartments, Sydney
The Eliza luxury apartments by architectural firm Tony Owen Partners have just been approved in Sydney and are commencing construction on Hyde Park, expected to be completed by 2012. With only 19 apartments, this exclusive 17-storey development is said to create a new standard in luxury and contemporary design for Australia.
Looking at the concept images below, the architecture and interior design oozes a cosmopolitan vibe for the top of the elite – le crème de la crème – city slickers and the privileged. The apartments have a unique parametrically designed façade. The building responds to the changing solar, view and planning conditions on each level such that the façade on every level is different. The design features 2 and 4 bedroom units with panoramic park and harbour views as well as a three-storey penthouse to top it off.
The penthouse will no doubt be a unique world class address with rooftop pool, private elevator and grand staircase and ceiling heights. The architects looked to the classics of 20th century design to create a world class building, set to be located alongside some of the best examples of historic Sydney architecture. While they take inspiration from the past with classic and elegant materials, the design combines fluid digital profiles and practices to create unique environmental solutions in a new approach to urban design.
There is indeed a beauty with high buildings that are cleverly designed as most world cities need them to fit a growing population both for residential and commercial office spaces. I always had a fascination for rooftops and think Sydney should utilise these more like for example New York. Not only to maximise creative use of space but also having plants on rooftops would help with better air quality.
With my love-hate relationship for skyrise apartments, I am keen to see the completion of project and soak in the view. However, personally, I never imagine myself living right in the middle of CBD as I’m happy to be able to just gaze at the city skyline from the bay close to where I live and admire them from a distance but one should perhaps never say never. I am pretty sure one could easily get used to the panoramic views from The Eliza and perhaps a lifestyle change is in order if you have the cash. I love the city lights at night and like to picture who are residing in the lit up windows. Now, let’s imagine how a life in one of these units would be… Might as well go all the way money can buy as no point to settle for anything less than the penthouse…
