Sydney Design 09: Schiavello & Living Edge+Launch Pad
Two of the highlights in Surry Hills during Saturday in Design, were the stylish Schiavello showroom and the buzzing Living Edge+Launch Pad. As part of this year’s event, Living Edge invited architects and interior designers to craft their own original chair design by using a kit containing two Chandon Sparkling corks, foil hoods and wire cages. The entire studio was scattered by the cute miniatures and the venue was filled to the rim with visitors (and drinks!). Living Edge was also the major sponsor of Launch Pad, the most extensive Australian initiative aimed at directly developing the careers of Australian product designers.
Schiavello which is a top 500 Australian company specialising in the design and production of commercial and residential environments with innovation through interior fit-out and construction, systems furniture, seating, storage, architectural joinery, IT integration, solid surface fabrication and signage. I especially enjoyed the solutions they have for interior fit-out for office spaces with funky and functional desks, dividers and break-out areas to increase productivity as well as well-being in workplaces. Again the trends of contrasting black and white colours were prominent in interior as seen in the Electrolux showroom and at PYD. Also, great food and cocktails at this place although not surprisingly, they quickly ran out of rum…

I also attended the SID and was most impressed with the whole organisation of the event – the venues, transport, assistance right through to the various individual stores and the massive effort they all went to to make the event the success it definitely was – can’t wait till next year!

SID – loved the pyd canvas carry bags and of course still using it – which means pyd is still getting their advertising as well – a win win all round!

Nice to hear you enjoyed the event too, Jo! Eco-bag is the way to go even though we start to have an ever-growing mountain now… hmm…
