Stranger than Kindness art exhibition
Six Wolves is proud to present “Stranger Than Kindness” collection by artist Beth Josey, 3-16 June 2010 at Gaffa Gallery, 281 Clarence St, Sydney.
Yeah, if you are wondering why you haven’t heard much from mecho contributors Kristen Perich and Adam Browne from Six Wolves lately, they have been busy with all kinds between heaven and earth (maybe even hell). Creative juices are flowing in their creative studio from street casting and production to curating this art collection. This is an invitation to a collection that is admittedly strange, but no stranger than kindness.
“Stranger than Kindness documents a world of scattered thoughts, disturbing dreams, and hallucinations of fears that we usually hide from each other and even ourselves.”
These paintings are not meant to convey the everyday thoughts of the everyday person. Kindness of a stranger is not part of our everyday world. A sense of gothic obscurity is expected to be seen with Josey’s use of classic mediums of oils, acrylic and ink. With a blend of portraiture and surrealism, exploring the fragmented nature of the individual and the contradictions inherent in all people.
This sounds like a somewhat dark creative space and instead of figuring out what to expect, we will simply let Beth Josey shift us all from our familiar, safe places to a confronting, mysterious underworld…
