Portraits of collectors
I wanted to do a series on people who collect things in the same manner as the TV series The Collectors. With the help of the people from the ABC, and word of mouth, I managed to track down many interesting people with great collections. I thought that both the objects these people collect and the people themselves would be interesting – and I was right!
The people I met during this series were so amazing and passionate about their collections that I would love to make this a long term project and create a book one day!
Some people shot in the series are not included due to sensitive materials such as Aboriginal paintings and artworks, but here is a small selection.
Laura (left) collects a whole range of different types of scales. Some of them are from op shops and some are given to her by people who knows she collects them.
Ngari (below) collects aprons, many of these are handmade and have been around for a number of years. Her cupboards are full to the brim with aprons throughout the house, this is just a sample!

Lissanne (left below) collects snow domes, she is a very controlled collector allowing only as many domes that will fit into her purpose built cabinet. Whenever a new one arrives, an old one is moved along! Tim (right below) collects many things. This is a selection of his baseball cap (and clothing) memorabilia which take up much of his space. I believe he has started now to collect Transformers!

Hi,
I have been searching the web site for a long time trying to find out people who collect odd things. I have a collection of the following : Swizzle Sticks, Cigar Bands ,Pens, Pez Dispensers, Baseball Caps, Badges,
and an old Walkman.
I can’t seem to find anyone who collects these kind of things so I can pass them on to them. I have even tried the Collectors programme. Can you set me in the right direction. Thanks. Simon
