I dig the sophisticated Swedish street fashion label Elvine but am actually not going to talk about their clothing today. End of last year, Elvine initiated a fabulous project offering non-established creators free short stay living in central Gothenburg, Sweden.

Their core value is “Elvine is your friend” and as a friend you of course offer your guests a roof over the head. No, not on a smelly couch where junkies hang out, Creators Inn by Elvine is styled in similar way as a modern hotel with a double bed, a sofa and bathroom with shower. There is even a fully equipped kitchen for guests who like to cook their own food. Clean sheets and towels, bathrobes, slippers and grooming products plus free wireless Internet is also available.

The creators must have a reasonable errand or contribution in town. Foreign guests have an advantage. Besides the joy and gratefulness from the creators when they are offered free accommodation, their presence leads to a more interesting Gothenburg. Something that Elvine decides to call Creative Social Responsibility and looking to expand to other European cities in 2009.

So far, guests have included: Swedish soul musician Jomo, US garage band The Vibrarians, UK artist Momus, Swedish fashion designer Sara Forsberg and Japanese artist Mako Ishizuka among others.
