Diesel Only the Brave fragrance launch, Worlds End Studio
L’Oreal Australia, Diesel, MTV and Stupid Krap presented the launch of the new men’s fragrance Diesel Only the Brave at Worlds End Studio in Surry Hills, Sydney. It is the headquarters of artist portal Stupid Krap as well as the working studios for a collective of local artists. The building is plastered with graffiti and has a raw feel of boundless creativity. It was the ultimate venue for a live art battle in the theme of “Only the Brave” between artists Ben Frost, Numskull and Meggs in front of an exclusive audience of art crowd, celebrities and media.
The studio only has capacity for 200 people and I made it to the guest list thanks to my friends at the digital agency who created the Diesel Only the Brave website.

Melbournian Meggs took home the majority of the audience votes and you can tell he has a vivid imagination and passion for superheroes, fantasy characters and bold colourful graphics, such as those found on toy packaging and video covers. In his bio, you can read that his work has references to the nostalgia of childhood heroes and villains from cartoons, comics & sci-Fi films of the 1980s. His artwork is often exploring the notion of duality and an on-going question of morals, rights and authorities.
All art pieces from the battle are being auctioned for charity on eBay with all proceeds going to the Skateistan organisation developing skate culture in Afghanistan.

The new Diesel Only the Brave fragrance comes in bottle shaped as a fist and was mingling its way through the jam-packed audience. I managed to snap up its fresh oriental and woody tones in the midst of fumes from the graffiti spray cans – the scent was oozing masculinity and strength with a humble coolness. Clearly, it was in its best element and gaining street cred among the crowd. Booya!
