Zaishu Swedish Cross Stitch and Indian charity project
We have previously mentioned the versatile Zaishu furniture which can be used as a table, chair or art piece. It is interesting to see their latest news from new hand printed artwork to charity projects in India and Argentina.
Among the new design that lies close to our hearts include the classic Swedish Cross-Stitch. It pays homage to traditional womens’ crafts of needlework combined with the Scandinavian love of natural wood. The artwork features magenta embroidery designs, snowflake patterns in spring green with a Nordic blue cross-stitch bird.
India has recently been in the limelight with award-winning movie Slumdog Millionaire, but we were appalled to hear that the child actors still live in the slums after the success of the movie. It is however good to hear that charity work is still taking place such as the Zaishu non-profit Indian project which included panels to hand painted in India by Warli tribal artists, Rangoli artists, school children and traditional sign writers. Proceeds supported the artists and children from Samparc Children’s Village. A documentary made by Mike Crowhurst about this project was shown at the Sydney Powerhouse Design Museum.
