Reiko Kaneiko interior from London
Reiko Kaneiko is a British/Japanese designer that creates unique homeware products with her playful and elegant style with a narrative mischief to home interior products. With the intention to provoke a smile, Reiko Kaneiko adds a surreal touch to the familiar, e.g. Charmed by curious British sayings such as Egg Soldiers, she created eggcups made entirely of model soldiers, poised to support the egg. Other products include surreal candlesticks made entirely of china appearing to drip wax. Whilst always functional, the objects invite you to participate in deciphering the story and idea behind the work.
We also love the Christmas baubles with the cheeky messages such as “Sugar and Spice and All Things Nice” and “Hurry Down the Chimney Tonight”.

Rekio Kaneiko has also created some amazing furniture pieces like the Ovankgol table with the inherent beauty of the Ovangkol hardwood – the elegant legs create an illusion of a table afloat.

Trained at Central Saint Martins in London, Reiko Kaneiko has developed small design products for the giftware market since 2005. Launching new products at international and domestic fairs such as Maison et Objet Paris and Pulse London, same sentiments and subtle humour run through both products and furniture described as a mix of culture between East and West. Spotted by Beyond the Valley at Central Saint Martins graduation show, she joined the collective and has worked closely with them to develop the production and style of her work. A second collection launched recently during London Design Week 2009 in September, Designers Block.
