Pop Rocks art exhibition with Stupidkrap
For the past five years, Stupidkrap has been cultivating a strong following of art lovers, by providing limited edition prints and artworks by emerging and established urban and outsider artists. Co-created by one of Australia’s best known artists, Ben Frost, who has exhibited his work in New York, London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Beijing and Singapore.
Ben Frost will curate Stupidkrap’s first show Pop Rocks at Urban Uprising in Sydney’s Darlinghurst from 29 July 2010 – including prints and artworks by a long list of established and up and coming artists, such as Dan Baldwin (UK), Anthony Lister, Numskull, Beastman, Bei Badgirl, Eamo, Max Berry, Philjames, Akina, and many more, as well as Ben’s own work. It promises to be a short sharp shock to the senses, both visually and mentally stimulating, mixing pop surrealism and iconography with cultural confrontation.
Ben Frost says; “I wanted to put together an exhibition, that was about colour, vibrancy, and dynamism – all with the varying levels of social criticism. These themes are a common thread in a lot of the work of the street and urban artists practicing today. Being involved in Stupidkrap.com, I’ve worked with nearly all of these artists very closely over the years, and we’ve slowly been launching more and more print editions for them, which has helped in many ways push and promote their careers into both the local and international art markets. This exhibition displays that link between original work and printed editions, and it’s a great way for people to start or continue their art collections – inexpensively and in style.”
