Heartaches art exhibition by James Jirat Patradoon
Anyone who enjoyed James Jirat Patradoon guest blog on mecho earlier this year, must not miss his upcoming art exhibition titled Heartaches.
The 25-year-old Sydney-based artist and illustrator, is known primarily for his neon screenprints and stylised digital work. With Hearthaches, his new drawings shift into a more organic and personalised gear.
Using a bold kind of reverse engineering, the exhibit presents a taut exploration of authenticity and identity in the form of massive graphite-on-canvas drawings. Informed by Patradoon’s observations of pop constructions of masculinity and of self-representation in a post-convergence culture, it is a sometimes bleak, sometimes tongue-in-cheek, but always insightful personal critique.
Heartaches art exhibition opens at Boutwell Draper Gallery (82-84 George Street, Redfern) on Thursday 23 September 2010 from 6-8pm, and runs in tandem with Ben Frost’s Art of Noise until 23 October 2010.
