German duo coarse has just unveiled the next in their series of limited edition vinyl toys, False Friends, a pair of original 13” vinyl statues. False Friends are characters Paw! a monkey cross rabbit, and Noop, a human-like being.

The characters back story is even more immense than the detail of the statues with an entire essay setting the scene. The tale goes that the young Noop begins to mimic the appearance of his natural enemy, Paw!, a tactic to secure his own survival. However, after being acknowledged as a Paw!, Noop becomes trapped behind this mask forever.

Here’s an extract from the story from coarse double art figure release of False Friends lost for life:

“The Noop lies sprawled across the warm ground in a sticky mess. His eyes, still blurred, catch sight of the bright blue sky behind the vast tree leaves. Not too long ago the Elastomer was a dark and hostile place. Now it sparkles again in the boldest of colours, fresh and juicy. Giant fruits hang from the branches of the trees. In one, well protected and nourished, the Noop had time to grow. But now he is ripe, and he has hatched from his fleshy fruit shell.”

Strange but brilliant.
