Artworked Eames chairs for charity
American designers Charles (1907–1978) and Ray (1912–1988) Eames made major contributions to modern architecture and furniture. No doubt, their timeless designs still work well today and continue to provide inspiration for artists. Throughout this month, Sydney’s Gazebo Wine Garden in Elizabeth Bay been showcasing a unique exhibition of Eames chairs individually artworked by seven talented creatives including Sibella Court, Mary Shackman, Ben Frost, Brett Chan, Sarrita King, Arnie Arnold and Daimon Downey.
The designer chairs are suspended from the ceiling, allowing diners to bid on their favourite in a silent auction, with all proceeds going to the Ted Noffs Foundation, a charity which provides essential services for young people and their families experiencing drug and alcohol problems.
Hard to pick out which ones we like best but our personal favs include the cheeky joker by Ben Frost, the colourful Arnie Arnold, and the exquisite works of Brett Chan and Mary Shackman.
Who knows, these might even become treasured collectors item in the feature? Art in the Garden exhibition and charity auction closes end of June.
