When people hear the word ‘Plasid’ they may think of that human swallowing lake in that movie called ‘Lake Placid’ with the giant Croc, yeah? Well no, the Plasid (note the S not C) that I speak of has nothing to do with lakes or giant Crocs. This is Plasid Apparel of Manly on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, co-founded by brothers Justin and Jonson Seelenmeyer. They both have common interest of fashion success and Plasid Apparel has been sweeping young fashionistas of the Northern Beaches off their feet with their chic range of street fashion for some time now. I can see why as I sit sipping my water scoping out the very smart-looking premises… Nice!

When I ask why they decided to bunk up in Manly and not the city, the simple response is: “The lifestyle… It’s perfect. We are at home here!”. It seems going against the rat race is paying off for the fashion label. With their very innovative use of social networking and business skills, not to mention design talent, Plasid Apparel has managed to get these style-conscious individuals running through the doors to purchase a fresh get-up for a night on the town. Plasid Apparel also loves a good party and to look good when heading out. A lot of the label’s inspiration comes from the nightlife scene and culture. “We try get involved with various nightspots and clubs through sponsorship as a label as that combine two of our passions as one, there’s nothing better.”

Jonson who is a self-taught sewer describes their aesthetic as “functional street fashion with a nice clean silhouette”, more or less bringing Urban Sydney fashions to the beachside suburbs. However, they are also receiving orders from all over Australia and overseas. Catering for males and now females, as well as various unisex fashions their collection continues to grow and so does their impressively large fan-base on their Facebook page. The boys continue to post latest trends and events to get everyone in the groove to look sharp and excited for their night out.

“To begin with we mostly did menswear and unisex pieces, now due to the feedback and demand we’ve seen, we decided to introduced a women’s range” says Justin. So, with summer and a new collection only around the corner there are various women’s dresses soon to hit the shelves made from top quality silks and organic cottons hand selected by the lads, fit for any style conscious women who wants to maintain her stylish statement yet making comfort a priority. As for the gents, T-shirts and singlet tops are always a winner in Summer, pairing up perfectly with the newly released board-shorts by the label. Plasid Apparel is definately a label to look out for this Summer.
