Dr Martens 50th Anniversary
Dr. Martens 50th anniversary fuses the past and the present with 10 artists interpreting music and different genres from the past five decades with their own covers. The tracks have started to roll out online for free download and among the first now available are for example “If The Kids Are United (Sham 69)” cover by The Duke Spirit, and Noisettes cover “Ever Fallen in Love With Someone You Shouldn’t've” (Buzzcocks). Check out the videos.
There is no doubt Dr. Martens always had a strong connection to the music industry with many stars seen kicked off in a pair to the hall of fame but also up and down the spiral of success. These well-recognised shoes have also carried many of us personally through both good and hard times from our teen years, and through our own walk of life. Fashion and political statements for many or just a comfort zone for some.
“It’s a brand that people have tended to adopt from different subcultures throughout its history,” said Tom Phillips, creative director at Exposure in New York. “What we’re seeing today is a whole new generation of kids picking up on the brand and giving their own slant on what it means and how it can be worn.”
