Interview with Indah skin care creator, Teisha Lowry

Like many Australian women I consider skin care a top priority in my life. Having a regular skin care regime can prevent the five signs of ageing, and most importantly keep you looking healthy and glowing. However with many harsh skin care products out on the market these days, it is hard to find a good product without harmful chemicals such as parabens, sodium lauryl and laureth sulphates, detergents, synthetic fragrances and petro chemicals. This is why Melbourne model Teisha Lowry created INDAH, an all natural, environmentally friendly range of skin care products.

From lip balms, moisturisers, body butter and body bars Miss Teisha Lowry has a delicious range of products your skin and soul will love. Not only does INDAH care about nourishing your skin, it supports the environment by using 100% natural, eco friendly, recycled paper for its packaging. As if this product can’t get any better, they also support local charities in Bali where the products are manufactured. I asked Teisha Lowry, the creator and director of INDAH, a few questions about her products. Here’s what she had to say:

What made you decide to create a skin care range?
I have always lived a natural and organic lifestyle, plus I love Bali so I was looking for a luxurious, affordable alternative to expensive skin care treatments when I was holidaying there one year. With so much going on in the world, we no longer have the time or the money to spend on costly solutions and trips to the day spa. That’s why I’ve created a unique, thoughtful range of body-care products that enhances the soul and skin for Australians. It’s not just for people who love the outdoors, it’s for people who enjoy using, and know the benefits of, natural therapies.

There are a many skin care products out on the market these days, why was it important to you that INDAH be 100% natural?
I believe in the healing powers of nature. That’s why my products only contain the finest tropical ingredients. These ingredients are extracted from natural, organic fruits, flowers and plants that are grown and harvested in a sustainable manner. Most ingredients are ‘Cold Pressed’. This means they are extracted without using chemicals or heat which so many commercial products are. Using ancient wisdom and local Balinese traditions to bring the ingredients together, INDAH helps optimise and balance not just the skin, but the whole person.

How did you come up with the brand name, what is it symbolic of?
INDAH, means beautiful in Balinese, and it is made with love. It took me forever to find the perfect name. It had to be something Balinese as that’s where my products are made. It’s all beautiful there: beautiful people, beautiful places and a beautiful way of life – I want to bring a slice of that to Australia.

Your products are made in Bali, is there any story behind this choice?
Like most Australians – I love Bali! My family and friends have been holidaying there for years. So it just happened naturally when I founded INDAH. I am in my element when I’m there, surrounded by nature where I can make my concoctions of skin care remedies which date centuries, no white lab coats here – just me and my herbalists. I live their life day-to-day by abiding by Tri Hita Karana – which means Three of Harmony: Living harmoniously with our environment, humanity and the divine. Also, I want to give something back to the Balinese people, we have been using their country for holidaying and trading for decades, most Aussies are familiar with it, so why not give it back to the locals and communities of Bali.

What are the driving factors behind INDAH’s support of Mitra, SurfAid and IDEP (Indonesian Development of Education and Permaculture)?
INDAH is a proud advocate of IDEP – this means so much to me. IDEP Foundation is an NGO in Indonesia that teaches Permaculture and Disaster Risk Reduction and supports communities in need in times of disaster. INDAH helps out with projects in Bali which include community training support and education and in a way that helps people help themselves.

What INDAH product can’t you live without?
I can’t live without my INDAH Dreamland Body Butter! And my INDAH Surfer’s Body Balm – which I have one in hand bag, one in the car, one in the bathroom and one on my desk. It’s just so refreshing and really zones me back to Bali.

Homework: Be sure to check out the INDAH’s products online or if available at your local health food shop – if not, tell Teisha and she will make sure it’s in there ASAP. Class dismissed. //MissT
