Travel tips, in-flight beauty and skincare rituals
This morning, I jumped on a plane to head off on a work trip to the US, UK and Bali. So, as I sit here in the cabin winging my way across the Pacific Ocean I am inspired to share my in-flight rituals that help to keep me hydrated and healthy when it could be oh so easy to fall in to some not so healthy traps.
When the airlines introduced the new law restricting the size and quantity of liquids you could take on board for long haul flights, my first reaction was; “YIKES! How on earth will I cope without my face mist, moisturisers, cuticle balm and bottles of water?!” I have, however, come to love the whole concept. It has forced me to be more organised and streamlined with what I carry with me. These days, I pack a lovely little bag containing three essentials: rosewater face mist, rosehip oil and an ultra-rich natural hand cream containing nourishing ingredients such as shea butter, cocoa butter, jojoba oil, rosehip oil and Vitamin E.
1. Board the plane with a clean face for my skin to breathe. (No make-up, ladies. If you must, then apply just a little mineral make-up).
2. Drink lots of water and by lots, I mean lots and lots.
3. Avoid alcohol, caffeine and carbonated drinks. They are ALL dehydrating and will play havoc with your complexion and insides.
4. Halve my food consumption, sitting on my butt for over 12 hours hardly warrants filling my tummy with food. I make a particular effort to avoid sugar when flying.
5. Get up and walk the aisle every couple of hours, and do foot and leg stretches as often as I can remember to.
6. Every few hours I spritz my face with rosewater.
7. Half way in to the flight I apply a little rosehip oil and towards the end of the flight if my skin requires it.
8. Just after take-off and towards the end of the flight I apply hand cream to my hands, arms and legs.
And that’s it… simple yet very effective! Enjoy your flight.
