The fashion world was dealt a crippling blow on 11 February 2010, when designer Alexander McQueen was found dead in his London home. He was truly a shining star, and an immensely creative, talented artist. McQueen runway shows were known for their daring theatrics, wonderful clothes and crazy, out-there hairstyles and hairpieces. Like everything he did, Alexander McQueenʼs work with hair styling will be an inspiration for generations to come.

The look from the left is from 2008 – a play on fingerwaves, a hairstyling technique that has been popular since the 1930s. Typical of McQueen to make it so interesting. Again from 2008, right at the forefront of a trend as usual. The hairstyle to the right is around the time when volume became popular again, and the dead-straight blowdry slipped into the background. McQueen always had a dramatic intrepretation of a street trend on his runway.

More volume from the left, and the braid became a key trend in 2009. The last style is from one of his final collections, and is an extension of the braiding theme. This is an incredibly elaborate (and painful) style.

McQueen was never ordinary or boring. His was indeed an extraordinary talent, and he will be sorely missed. I just want everybody to know he was not just a clothes designer, he was an inspiration, a leader, a visionary.
