Zara is finally confirmed to open in Australia! Pablo Isla, deputy chairman and CEO of the Spanish based retail giant Inditex, confirmed at the company’s annual meeting yesterday that the company will open its first stores in Australia and South Africa in 2011. Zara is currently in 77 countries around the world and here are some concept images, giving Australian retailers and customers an idea of what the stores may look like.

Although not much details have been revealed, Australia will be the next step in an aggressive global rollout of the company, which opened a staggering 343 new stores in 2009. Last year Inditex opened its first stores in Syria and earlier this year, it has entered Kazakhstan, Bulgaria and India. In Asia, Inditex has a strong presence in Singapore where it has opened Zara and launched other brands, Pull and Bear and Bershka.

The rumours of entering Australia has been floating around for a while including talks about a multi-storey Zara store opposite what is now the Apple flagship in Sydney’s George St or house the flagship Virgin Store. However, launch has been delayed in favour to other markets until now. This should inject some healthy competition in the local retail market for both mens and women fashion. Game on!
