The Tower collection by Simon Ekrelius

London-based fashion designer Simon Ekrelius is back with new edgy inspiration. To date, he has presented 14 collections, all titled and with different themes with his asymmetric innovative cuts and sophisticated print techniques. Check out his Autumn/Winter 2009 “The Tower’ fashion collection inspired by Tatlin’s Monument to the Third International. The relation between constructivism and the future fascinates Ekrelius. He says lines and shadows plays an important role, referring to Rodchenko’s photography and the movie ‘’I am Cuba’’.

Round versus the square, intricate constructions with simple ones for balance. Exquisite architectural pattern techniques are applied to create a trailblazing authoritarian silhouette using straightforward fabrics such as silk organza, silk chiffon, cotton canvas, poplin, linen and cotton satin in cream, off-white, clear white, black and more black. Hand-painted futuristic motifs in silver and black on cotton also interrupt the geometric feel. Photos by Raul Moya Mula.

PS. We are also very excited to confirm that Simon Ekrelius is joining our contributors network and will sprinkle us with sass each month from the London fashion scene. In April, we will proudly roll out our initial list of high calibre contributors within different fields, some of them you will recognise from our previous guest blogs! If you are also interested in contributing, find out how to join our network.
