Secret Squirrel The White Album Autumn/Winter 2010

Taking inspiration from the Beatles record of the same name, Secret Squirrel Autumn Winter 2010 womens fashion collection – The White Album – is an eclectic range with their signature vintage influences.

The designs include dark overdyed floral prints, luxe sixties sequinned fabrics, crisp chambray and sharp abbey road style tailoring.

Paying tribute to the album, the garment names are taken from song lyrics Highlight pieces including the Ob-La-Di floral shift with ruffled sleeves and the Helter Skelter sequinned dress with scoop back and thick silk criss cross strap detail. Dapper blazers and overcoats pay homage to the tailoring of the Beatlemania era, whilst double-sided black and white sequins on dresses and cardigans reference the bars of a piano. The range also incorporates a soft nostalgic femininity, with demure pleated knee length skirts and schoolgirl style collared pinafores that button up to the neck.

Maybe we are stuck in a time warp but we miss the fresh colours of Secret Squirrel Summer 2008. We are sure the somewhat conservative colour range is intentionally for the Winter season and aligned with the Beatles album cover which had no graphics, only a plain white sleeve. The colour scheme also fit well with British classic style or say “Back in the USSR”. Pardon the pun but we wouldn’t mind spice it up with splashes of colour and accessories. Good thing is the basic and natural colour tones create a solid and easy foundation to mix and match. “Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on, bra!”
