Rosemount Australian Fashion Week Spring Summer 2009/10 (27 April – 1 May 2009) kicked off today in the beautiful backdrop of Circular Quay at the Overseas Passenger Terminal in Sydney. RAFW is an exclusive industry-only event for buyers, agents, media, stylists and other fashion industry reps. The doors opened for registration at 8am this cold yet refreshingly sunny and crisp morning with a vibrant line-up of happy goers. Nice buzz!

The first day pre-predominately focused on the Australian womens fashion, starting off in a Brigitte Bardot type of style by Camilla & Marc in pearlwhite/silver, black/gold, showing of shoulders in dresses and legs in denim shorts or skirts. The next runway had Middle Eastern inspired glam from Bec & Bridge including swimsuits, belly dancer tassels and harem pants. The fashion show was followed by the hot luxury Ginger & Smart mixed with great prints on blend of both neutral and bold colours on a variety of material however with a little faux-pas by a model unfortunately stacking it on the skinny nail heel. Ouch!

The show reel of Women’s Ready to Wear included designers such as Annah Stretton and Dizingof to mention a few. Whilst Wayne Cooper was fashionably late and kept everyone fuming in the delay to eventually explode in a disco fever, the arvo did include highlights such as rad Arnsdorf worth a big mention for their soft pastels and cohesive designs – we are in lust! To sum up interesting themes spotted today; bangles on wrists, studded or spiky cuffs on ankles, sassy boot-shoes, jumpsuits, one-shoulder dresses and killer high heels… mmeeoww!

Tomorrow, our guest blogger Alvin Manalo is flaunting his fashion label Saint Augustine Academy at the Men’s and Women’s Ready to Wear show at The OPT, Tuesday 28 April at 2pm. Big applause!

During the week, a selection of designers from Australia & Asia-Pacific will continue to present their collections for the fashion industry. Despite the global recession said to have a negative impact of this year’s event and rumours of downsizing, the official schedule promise on-site and off-site collection shows, parties, special invitation-only events plus RAFW Agent Designer Suites at The Westin, Emerge and The Boutique Showrooms.
