RAFW 2010: Photographer Stefan Gosatti, Getty Images

Stefan Gosatti, Getty Images contributing photographer at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week 2010, is a seasoned fashion week photographer covering runway shows from Sydney to New York for the last six years. A native from Perth, Stefan has always had a passion for fashion photography and particularly loves the challenge of trying to capture interesting and unique pictures at runway events. We have a quick chat with Stefan and share hot photos from his 2010 RAFW coverage including Aurelio Costarella, Zimmerman, Manning Cartell, Alex Perry and backstage of Alice McCall.

Although this is the 15th Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, there has only been one Aboriginal model taking the stage to date. We hope to see more models of diverse cultural backgrounds in future events whilst Samantha Harris been sensational – we love the unique shots Stefan has captured of her and all the other beauties this week.

What is your personal experience of being a photographer at this year’s RAFW?
This year’s RAFW has been very, very exciting and particularly full on! It has almost doubled in size since last year with 63 shows squeezed into just five days. The first show starts at 9am and the last is scheduled for 9.30pm – although often doesn’t start till nearer 11pm! As a photographer, I have to make sure I’m there as early as possible to secure the best spot in the pit. It’s exhilarating and the adrenalin is pumping throughout, but it’s also very hard work! The Romance Was Born show was a particular highlight this year, the team there went all out for it to be a visual spectacular which made for some great images.

How does Sydney compare to international shows?
Sydney is smaller than other international shows like New York – with fashion week lasting five days here compared to eight days there. Another notable difference is that all shows are on site in Sydney, where as New York has several shows off site, these are great as often the designers showing off site really push the boat out to create an amazing event spectacular rather than traditional catwalk show. Of course, Australia is home, and it’s always great shooting something you love on home turf!
