NYFW A/W 2010: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week highlights
It was with great excitement tinged with a little sadness that I approached the Mercedes Benz 2010 Autumn Winter Fashion Week. Excited because New York Fashion Week is one of the greatest fashion experiences that a fashionista can have. Sad because it was the last New York Fashion Week at the tents in Bryant Park. The Spring shows in September will be moved to Lincoln Centre, which I feel will be a great location. Lincoln Centre is the epicentre of arts and culture in New York and moving Fashion Week there will legitimise Fashion.
I was extremely lucky to view shows and presentations from some amazing designers. Some definite trends emerged from the shows included Fur, Leather, Chunky knits, Texture, Embellishments, Fierce shoes, Sequins, Black, Gray and Oatmeal (again!)
Highlight shows for Women’s Fashion:
Vassilios Kostetsos – his show had all the elements of fantasy with gorgeous sequin shorts and fabulous snakeskin thigh high boots as well as completely wearable but equally as fabulous suits and coats.

Arialiis – this half Aussie half American Designer presented a strong collection of women’s fashion with fantastic leather pieces and wonderful silky one shouldered looks. Every look was expertly tailored. This is one collection in which I would like to purchase every single piece.

Rolando Santana – his absolutely gorgeous woman’s wear was both at once striking and feminine with an attractive edgy feel. His use of beautiful prints and beautiful fabrics was absolutely beautiful.

Christian Siriano – the shoes! I can’t go on enough about the fantastic shoes he previewed on the runway. Christian, a Project Runway Alumnus, who has set the fashion world on fire with his previous collection, teamed up with Payless and created the most amazing collection of shoes for his runway show. I sure hope we can buy these fantastic shoes soon.
Highlights this week for Men’s Fashion:
Oumlil – this collection included tailored grey suits paired with pale blue turtlenecks, beautiful weave textured jackets and elegant trousers.
Manuel De La Cruz – his menswear collection included glorious pops of colour, elegantly tailored looks and futuristic embellishments.
Duckie Brown – this collection was all about the plaid. Plaid jackets, pants and shirts mixed with military jackets, chunky scarves and gorgeous tailored coats.
Another New York Fashion Week has come and gone. As everyone looks forward to the Spring shows in Lincoln Centre, I hope that we all take a minute to reminisce about all the fashion weeks past in the tents at Bryant Park.

An insightful article into the names we usually never hear press about at NYFW. Thank you.
