LMFF 2010: Joveeba & White Suede

As many of you know, last week was the L’oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, a forum where famous, popular and up and coming designers have the chance to show off their labels to the wonderful city of Melbourne. Having events all around the city, the festival based itself at the waterfront Docklands. Having crowds flock to every event, there wasn’t any shortage of well-dressed and good-looking fashion addicts, waiting to see the latest styles hot off the runway. LMFF did just that, provided their audience with nothing but fashion forward, stylish, ready to wear labels. Let’s take a look at two collections that impressed me, not just because of their style, but for the labels ability to collaborate style with the everyday.

Joveeba
From the creative brain of designer Alison Cotton, this Western Australian label is effortlessly cool, providing stylish, edgy and chic everyday wear. With a beautiful colour palette of indigo, magenta and deep blues, the label boasted warrier-esque tribal prints on free flowing silk tops and dresses. These were cleverly matched with black sequined waist coats, heavy boots and Joveeba’s featured accessories, the heavy studded, black fringed leather earring. The collection shifted its focus to fun, flirty and sexy looks, ready to party all night long. The collections use of sequins in a range of skirts, dresses and fabulous gold sequined jackets, was the pinnacle of what was an impressionable collection sure to be sold hot off the shelves in 2010.

White Suede
Jacqui Demkiw’s latest collection is smart, sexy and you guessed it totally wearable. The collection merges the use of strong silhouettes, definitive shoulders with delicate silks, gorgeous leather and articulate lace to achieve a chic, edgy yet individual style. Blazers and jackets became a feature of the collection, from heavy military style trench coats, stunning cropped leather jackets, to the oversized boyfriend blazer, White Suedes latest collection failed to disappoint. The collections range of embellished shouldered dresses, and delicate lace tops is indicative of Miss Demkiw’s creative and artistic talent, striving to provide the fashion industry with an eclectic range of designs.

As Melbourne Fashion week is over, we await the next main industry event, the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week in Sydney. Getting more popular each year, LMFF was more than a success. It was sensational. Homework: Check out these two hot labels. Class Dismissed. //MissT
