Gosh, everyone seem to have got hold of those cheap tix!??? 5 of my friends been there already this year and would probably say its the hot destination of the year. the party and underground scene seems to be pretty unreal by the looks of some of my friends pics and stories of nightclubs with different themes. japan seems crazy fun! take me take me with you next time!

Wow! Great photos! We've shelved our plans for next year's Japan trip given the exchange rate. Sad because I miss it so much.

Hi Darren, I don't completely agree with you on all point. that japan are embracing all subcultures. Having lived and worked in japan, i discover its a land full of contradiction and those that stand out from the norm have trouble getting acceptance. Having said that, I love Japan with all its quirkiness but there are still lots of underlying issues of old and new, east and west. its an interesting place. the new generation definately has a much more open mind though. Bron

yeah love it! i'm completely obsessed by japan and thinking of going over there as soon as the economy gets back in shape...

i was very disappointed to find out that the quirky vending machines that used to stock everything are no longer around.the ones you can find in every corner now are only filled with soft drinks, water, coffee and cigarettes. (probably the "best" coffee you will find in japan however as starbucks is the only place that uses real barristas otherwise... hrm, need i say more??)

i know many viewed these classic vending machines as ugly urban pollution but i really think they were essence of modern japanese culture. same goes with their unique toilets, polite manners, modern technology, childish obsession of anime and karaoke. the beauty with japan is that they are embracing not only one common norm but a set of subcultures that allow you to express yourself through your own style and interest.

its very interesting read and observation you guys done of the cultural re-appreciation. japan should be proud of the beauty of their own people.

Hii mecho,
Love all the stories and pics you have put up from Japan! It seems to be such a buzzing and innovative country. Especially loved reading the article from Tokyo designers week and you have really inspired me to go want to go to there! xo
