Australian Fashion Week 2009 RAFW Wrap Up

With the Rosemount Australian Fashion Week 2009 ended, the fashionistas in Sydney town can now regain some beauty sleep after an overdose of injected inspiration, sore feet, cold days and hot parties. We have gathered some special take outs from our friends in the industry.

Our May guest blogger, Ms Fitz, was working hard as a stylist behind the scenes during RAFW and these are her predictions:

A return to a stronger silhouette Shoulder pads – extended shoulders – bring back your shoulder pads ladies!

Nude colour palettes Beige, nude, light peach and greys (we will have to see if it translates to the buyers though)

Zips It is all about chunky zippers!

Cut out tailored detailing This applies for shoes too – see Dion Lee

Gold not silver for accessories

Feel free to pop Ms Fitz any questions about her experience, style tips or other things during this month – she will be blogging from NYC as she is moving there this week (!)

Marcel Bingham and Aaron O’Brien from mens accessories label Adam No Eve (also guest bloggers in May), attended the New Gen show and think the show was much like a performance. There was film for the labels Nana Judy and Stand, theatrical like make-up for the womenswear and live music, e.g. the Brent Zaicek range was unreal with New Zealand hip-hop artist King Kapisi. As for Menswear, this seemed very powerful and strong. Aaron personally wants something more masculine in fashion nowadays, something that says; “Yes I’m a man in mens clothes, not a man in boys clothes”. He felt the Zaicek range offered this to him. For the ladies, he enjoyed seeing powerful women wearing powerful clothes with lots of colour involved. Continue blogging more with Marcel & Aaron this month!

Designer and Stylist Kelly Love, our latest addition to the contributors network, shares her favourite RAFW show with us – read her feature about Aurelio Costarella Spring Summer 2009-2010. Kelly is returning to London where she is based these days but will be back on our site every month with inspiration not only from London but also other exciting places.

Designer Alvin Manalo, was showcasing Saint Augustine Academy Spring Summer 2009-2010 collection at the Men’s and Women’s Ready to Wear show. Enjoy the video below from his runway. We are proud to have had him on board during April and look forward to stay connected with his amazing talent, he has also promised to share some photos when available.
