Spring Racing Hats by Marilena Romeo
No longer is a hat simply a hat! Especially not during Spring Racing Carnival and Melbourne Cup. Multiple-awards winner Marilena Romeo shares her latest collection with photos taken by Marcelo Di Florio from recent Melbourne Fashion Week 2009.
Many of Marilena’s creations are inspired by a bygone era with designs evolved season to season, it doesn’t surprise us if many of her hats are left on display long after the races are over. Marilena Romeo Millinery designer hats appear on catwalks across Australia and in exclusive selected boutiques as well as at theatrical performances.
Marlena describes her style as eclectic with quirkiness and has incorporated lots of movement in her formation of the “hat” this year – captivating to the eye and something different to see from every angle. She loves the movement of the ocean and has incorporated this into the flow of her style. Material includes wire using natural jin sin, vintage fabrics and crinoline. Large brimmed hats are always the favourite, however, small cocktail hats are also popular with every colour being in fashion at the moment – get ready for a colourful and vibrant Spring Racing Carnival this year!
