What if by drinking a beer, you could do something incredible for someone else? End of last year, we came across the rumours of Shebeen, Australia’s first non-for-profit bar, to pop up in Melbourne. Exotic beers and wines from the developing world will be sold with profits from each drink sale supporting a development project in that drink’s country of origin. Shebeen isn’t open yet but is getting closer to securing start-up funding. Our video crew in Melbourne met up with Social Entrepreneur Simon Griffiths for a beer – check out the interview and interact with our first guest blogger of 2011. (more…)

During each month in 2010, we have put the limelight on inspiring and creative minds worthy the attention with a Q&A profile in our guest blog section – emerging and established talents in any fields of design, innovation, fashion, culture, charity, photography, film, art, architecture etc.

Q&A Jana Brunclikova | Artist & Qualified Naturopath

Jana Brunclikova is a Sydney-based naturopath and artist. Born and raised in the Czech Republic, she lives in Bondi, loves life and frustrates surfers while swimming from north to south. Jana has spent the last seven years studying Health Science and trying to attain an Australian residency, financed from the money from her last exhibition. Photography has been a dear friend for the waiting time. The passion for art photography fits perfectly in between her passion for organic red wine and pencil illustrations. With stints in some of Sydney’s hotels, and notable venues such as Rambutan and The Victoria Room, Dr Phil Gandevia can be found behind the bar at Gourmet Traveller’s 2011 Bar of The Year, Eau De Vie. San Francisco-based Booji Founder & Head Designer Mdot’s constant crave for something different and her ‘think outside the (shoe)box’ design aesthetic led her to step out from working for the man in a pair of her own Booji sneakers. The result is an independent footwear and accessories line not only for women but also men. Her focus is innovative shoes, using animal friendly materials and green responsible products, always aware of their carbon footprint. Inspired by Cali lifestyle but also her daily life and travels.
