Hey Les. Many people experience these combination complaints with their hair and scalp. Firstly, the dandruff that people experience can range in severity and type and that must be diagnosed before it can be dealt with. The oiliness you notice in your bangs is very normal as this hair is closest to your face and frequently touched by your hands, resulting in oil-transferral. A good trick is to shampoo your fringe/bang area only, rather than shampooing your entire head every time. This then cleanses the oiliness present there, but doesn't lead to over-cleansing (and stripping of the scalps natural oils) elsewhere. When choosing a shampoo, especially if dandruff removal is a consideration, many people opt for a product that is extremely clarifying and can result in severe dryness and additional flaking of the scalp. Kevin Murphy's 'Balancing Wash' would be a good shampoo to try as it is suitably cleansing but gentle enough to be used frequently, although I still recommend shampooing only every second to third day.

In terms of the dryness you experience through the mid-lengths and ends of your hair, this is exacerbated by colouring and chemical procedures as well as the environmental factors that impact our hair every day. Using a a richer, more nourishing mask/treatment, in place of a conditioner, should help to keep this at bay, but always be sure that you are only conditioning the lengths of your hair and avoiding the scalp and root area. Kevin Murphy's 'Born Again Masque' is an extreme moisture replacement product that will help combat the dehydration that is present.

I hope this is useful, Les. The issues you experience can not be miraculously solved but there are ways and products to combat them. Perhaps also consider a dry shampoo that can be used in between shampooing to reduce oiliness and also a leave-in product such as Moroccan Oil to provide additional hydration and protection from heated-styling and the environment.

Hi Hannah. Fringes can pose a little trouble for people and getting them to sit exactly how you wish takes a little practise. My guess is that your now longer fringe is splitting in the middle because that is how your hair naturally falls and where the roots naturally part. This can be fixed by blow drying the fringe which will neutralise any root direction and allow you to part your hair where you desire.

When your hair is damp, section off the hair that makes up the fringe and begin blow drying the roots from side to side (you can use your fingers to push the hair in each direction, or if you can master using a small round brush, push the hair along the scalp from left to right and then back again). You need to be firm to control the roots and you need only focus on drying the root area to begin with. When done there you then blow dry the mid-lengths and ends down over your face and roll the ends to seal. Using cool air now, blow the hair back off your face and you should be able to part the hair where you so choose.

You could also speak to your hair stylist about re-shaping (not shortening if you don't want to do so) the fringe a little to work from your chosen part. Being that it has grown out from a short fringe, you may also need a little weight taken out to lighten the ends.

I hope this helps. Practise is key here. You'll get there, but it can take a little time to perfect this styling trick.

Tasmania and MONA are next on my hit list. We just shot the latest Gallo Hair collection so I've got a few days off now and I'm down in Melbourne visiting friends, checking out some exhibitions and just enjoying the city's distinctive culture. Sipping coffee and people-watching is going very well so far.

Cooper, Moroccan Oil's original oil treatment is a great versatile product that I think your hair would benefit from. It would not only offer the heat protection you seek but it also helps to reduce drying time and fights frizz. I'm also fan of Kevin Murphy's ever-growing range of products. His Protection line contains Damage Manager which is an instant heat shielding spray that can be used in damp hair but also directly on dry hair before using heated styling tools.

Change is good, Eva, but I totally get that you want to do some research before going for the chop. Fash mags are a great source of inspiration and many do seasonal hair guides that cover styles that are 'in' and also who they suit. Jumping online though and checking out mags' sites, fashion blogs, street style photography blogs and just some general hair 'googling' are great ways to find and examine different hairstyles. The great thing about online-research is that there are so many sources and they are constantly updated so you not only get a vast array of inspiration but it's up-to-the-minute too.

Hey Kam
Love your pictures!

I've always had long hair and I'm finally at the point where I'm ready to make a dramatic change, but aside from the fash mags, I'm not sure where I can research the kind of styles that might suit me
Have you got any good ideas about where I can spend some time investigating the current trends that might work for me?

Thanks
