Q&A Nina Las Vegas | Hoops DJs
Hoops DJs = Anna Lunoe, Nina Las Vegas and Bad Ezzy, three babes sweating it out in dark, dirty night clubs all for the love of music and Ajax. Last month, they performed live DJ sets along with DJ Dexter and M.A.F.I.A. at the recent Casio G-SHOCK:Shock The World Tour in Sydney. Meet Nina in December, one of the all-girl-trio.

Passion:
Soy Mochas, gossip, True Blood (any vampire fiction), the organisation I work for – Heaps Decent and music-slash-DJing.
I get my inspirations from:
All over! Music idols, BBFs and BFs, colleagues, art, clothes, blogs and Lady Gaga’s insane MTV Music Awards performance.
How I got my break:
After working in music radio for a while, having hard-drives literally filled with heavy jams and dancing to everyone else TOO often, I added the ‘Vegas’ glam to my name and began HOOPS with Bad Ezzy and Anna Lunoe. It started as an all girl party, but then we started getting booked to play other gigs! I think my second or third DJ gig was at the Falls Festival in 07. L to the OL.
My top tricks of the trade:
Label CDs really well, own (and regularly use) Shazam on your iPhone, always wanna learn more and if you are going to find music on mp3 blogs, read the posts.
My style in a sentence: Bold, colourful and comfortable, yet never planned enough.
I bet you didn’t know I can: Do the splits at any time. SERIOUS. Freakishly flexible.
My latest project is about:
I’m actually studying Community Cultural Development at Tafe. It’s a literal assignment on Community Planning. (Gross, much?) I’m distracting myself with making a 5-minute Hoops mix for our next party.
My last purchase:
I ordered an Opening Ceremony cardigan online last week, and purchased a shitty blush from Sportsgirl for a wedding as I was running stupidly late!
My current favourite mecho item:
Um… I kinda love the CC Skye Wide Mesh Bracelet. I love wearing (and buying) arm decorations!
Travel destination and tips:
I’m heading to France now in December, so I’m going to have to buy Repettos heels and dress like I’m always ready to go out on the town.
Pssstt…One time I…
Ate the vegetarian meal belonging to the guy next to me on a flight to LA. I was convinced that I had ordered it and he ate sugar on bread as a result!

WE PLAY A LOT. From 1 to 3 times a week.
We meet through the FBI Radio (A community station in Sydney) and it’s extended circle.
NYE? We’ll I’m all over. Purple Sneakers @ Manning Bar, Harbour Party @ Luna Park and we’ll be at Fake Blood and Treasurefingers at Oxford Art Factory for the count down.
Having said all that, I’d never say no to a roof party. No cabs? No hassle? With good friends? Carn… easy!
